【中文摘要】本论文是对乔治．莱可夫（George∵Lakoff）与马可．腾纳（Mark∵Turner）关于诗之隐喻理论的修正。我的论文理论基础是根据安可思博士在二○○一年发表的思想印照（Conceptual∵Mapping∵Model）而来。

∵我的论文主要希望回答两个问题：第一、隐喻以何种方式出现在诗里？第二、我们要如何区分这些诗的隐喻？本论文从罗伯.佛斯特（Robert∵Frost）、汤姆士.华特（Sir∵Thomas∵Wyatt）及爱蜜莉.荻瑾丝（Emily∵Dickinson）三位诗人的诗里选出八首诗，根据诗的分析结果，我认为隐喻以三种方式在诗里出现，第一是扩展（Amplification）、第二是凝缩（Reduction）、第三是融合（Integration），我简称之为ARI。也就是说诗的隐喻其实是扩大了一般隐喻的内涵、缩小了一般隐喻的本体（source∵domain）、以及融合了多个隐喻的本体等三种方式产生的。我分辨诗的隐喻的方式是根据安可思博士在二○○一发表的思想印照模式，找出诗里隐喻的成分（entity）、描述成分的特质（quality）以及功用（function）等三种内容，并将之与一般隐喻作比较而来。简言之，ARI试图以提供更明确找出诗与一般隐喻的差异的方式来修正乔治．雷可夫与马可．腾纳的理论。∵∵

∵第二章的内容介绍三首诗，前两首是佛斯特的诗《我未曾走过的路》（The∵Road∵Not∵Taken），以及《掉落路中央的树》（Trees∵Fallen∵Across∵the∵Road），和爱蜜莉.荻瑾丝的《出版即拍卖》（Publication─Is∵the∵Auction），佛斯特前两首诗使用了人生即旅程（LIFE∵AS∵A∵JOURNEY）的隐喻，而荻瑾丝的诗则使用了思想即商品（IDEA∵AS∵COMMODITY），这两个隐喻都是一般人平常使用的，但与一般隐喻比较的结果发现，他们都增加了一些新的词汇，他们扩大了这两个隐喻的用语。

∵第三章同样分析了三首诗，一首是佛斯特的《骑士》（Riders），一首是汤姆士.华特（Sir∵Thomas∵Wyatt）的诗，另一首是爱蜜莉‧荻瑾丝的诗。佛斯特的《骑士》使用了人生即旅程，但将之缩小至特指「骑马」这样的旅程，汤姆士.华特的诗（My∵Galley∵Charged∵With∵Forgetfulness）也使用了人生即旅程，但对照佛斯特的《骑士》，它将这个隐喻缩小至航行，至于爱蜜莉.荻瑾丝的（To∵the∵Wondrous∵Sea）则使用了死亡即旅程（DEATH∵AS∵A∵JOURNEY），但它将之缩小至航行。这些诗缩小了隐喻的本体。

∵最后一章分析两首诗，一首是佛斯特的《朝向泥土》（To∵Earthward），另一首是荻瑾丝的《前进》（Our∵Journey∵had∵Advanced--）。佛斯特的《朝向泥土》中使用了两个隐喻，即爱即植物（LOVE∵AS∵PLANTS）以及爱即食物（LOVE∵AS∵FOOD），荻瑾丝的《前进》则使用了人生即旅程和人生即战场（LIFE∵AS∵WAR），他们都将两个隐喻的本体的观念印照到同一个客体上，以此方式融合了两个隐喻。∵

【英文摘要】This∵thesis∵is∵a∵critique∵of∵Lakoff∵and∵Turner’s∵theory∵of∵poetic∵metaphors.∵I∵offer∵an∵alternative∵analysis∵of∵poetic∵metaphor∵based∵on∵the∵Conceptual∵Mapping∵Model∵（Ahrens∵2001）.∵I∵examine∵the∵following∵two∵questions:∵（1）∵What∵are∵the∵ways∵novel∵metaphors∵occur∵in∵poetical∵texts∵and∵（2）∵How∵can∵we∵distinguish∵among∵these∵different∵types∵of∵novel∵metaphors?∵Based∵on∵the∵result∵of∵the∵analysis∵of∵eight∵poems∵from∵three∵poets,∵namely∵Sir∵Thomas∵Wyatt,∵Emily∵Dickinson∵and∵Robert∵Frost,∵I∵argue∵that∵the∵novel∵mappings∵occur∵in∵poetry∵in∵three∵ways:∵Amplification,∵Reduction∵and∵Integration∵（ARI）.∵The∵novel∵mappings∵occur∵in∵poems∵by∵amplifying∵（increasing∵correspondences∵between∵source∵domain∵and∵target∵of∵conventional∵metaphor）,∵reducing∵the∵scope∵of∵a∵source∵domain∵of∵a∵conventional∵metaphor,∵or∵integrating∵the∵source∵domains∵of∵conventional∵metaphors.∵I∵distinguish∵the∵novel∵mappings∵that∵occur∵in∵poems∵by∵identifying∵entities,∵qualities,∵and∵functions∵found∵in∵both∵real∵world∵knowledge∵and∵in∵the∵actual∵mapping∵（following∵Ahrens∵2001）∵and∵comparing∵them∵with∵the∵novel∵mappings∵that∵occur∵in∵poems.∵In∵sum,∵ARI∵can∵be∵viewed∵as∵a∵refreshment∵of∵Lakoff∵and∵Turner’s∵theory
