科菲·安南给首届佛教论坛的贺信

∵首届世界佛教论坛2006年4月13日上午在浙江省杭州市召开。联合国前秘书长科菲·安南向论坛发来贺信。∵

安南的贺信全文如下：

佛陀充满人性与伦理的理想孕育了一个充满活力的精神传统。二千五百年后的今天，它仍使数以百万计的人民过着高尚的生活。

今天，全世界的佛子们庆祝佛陀带给人间的慈悲、理解与互敬的教义。

今天，佛陀的和平理想也许比以前任何时候都与我们更息息相关。如果我们想要战胜人类当前在和平与安全、发展与全球环保的领域里所面临的种种挑战就必须摒弃狭隘、短暂的一己之利，站得更高，把人类的福祉与个人的幸福看得一样重要。人人都希望有一个更加和平、平等、可持续发展的未来。不论是作为个人还是社会的一员，我们的行动都必须以此共同的理念为指导。

因此，我们铭记：无论我们的出身、种族、文化或信仰有何种不同，在本质上，我们没有区别。最重要的是我们必须生活在同一个家园，一个日渐变小的星球。因此，让我们为全世界人民的利益、和谐与和平共存而共同努力！

The∵Buddha’s∵ethnical∵and∵humanitarian∵ideals∵gave∵birth∵to∵a∵vibrant∵spiritual∵tradition∵that∵continues,∵more∵than∵2,500∵years∵later,∵to∵ennoble∵the∵lives∵of∵millions∵of∵people.

Today,∵all∵over∵the∵world,∵Buddhist∵celebrate∵the∵message∵of∵compassion,∵understanding∵and∵mutual∵respect∵that∵the∵Buddha∵brought∵to∵Mankind.

Today,∵the∵Buddha’s∵vision∵of∵peace∵may∵be∵more∵relevant∵than∵ever∵before,∵indeed,∵if∵we∵want∵to∵have∵a∵chance∵of∵overcoming∵the∵many∵challenge∵that∵face∵us∵today-----in∵the∵fields∵of∵peace∵and∵security,∵development,∵and∵the∵protection∵of∵our∵global∵environment-----we∵must∵think∵beyond∵our∵narrow,∵short—term∵self∵interests,∵and∵raise∵ourselves∵to∵universal∵perspectives∵from∵which∵the∵well-being∵of∵the∵broader∵human∵community∵can∵be∵seen∵to∵be∵as∵important∵as∵our∵inpidual∵well-being.∵Each∵of∵us∵shares∵the∵hope∵of∵a∵more∵peaceful,∵equitable∵and∵sustainable∵future.∵Our∵action----as∵inpidual∵and∵as∵member∵of∵our∵communities----must∵be∵guided∵by∵that∵common∵dream.

Let∵us∵remember,∵therefore,∵that∵whatever∵our∵origin,∵race,∵culture∵and∵belief,∵we∵are∵not∵essentially∵different.∵Above∵all,∵we∵share∵the∵same∵home,∵an∵ever∵smaller∵planet∵on∵which∵we∵are∵bound∵to∵live∵together.∵So,∵Let∵us∵work∵together∵towards∵the∵common∵good∵and∵the∵harmonious∵and∵peaceful∵coexistence∵of∵all∵the∵world∵people.
